    1841 1d Red brown Plate 46. Very fine pre-paid entire addressed to Ballymoney as indicated by a red manuscript "1" alongside a Green "PAID AT/ COLERAINE" handstamp. This has then had a 1d red with good to huge four margins lettered SD, affixed with red sealing wax over the top of the original handstamp and beautifully tied by a crisp Coleraine "149" numeral. Backstamped at Coleraine for NO.19.1844. A very attractive and unusual cover.

    1840 One Penny Black Plate V (Initialled: CA) slightly cut into at lower left but showing portions of adjoining stamp at top and right tied by a superb strike of the distinctive Wotton-under-Edge distinctive Maltese Cross to entire letter (lower flap missing).

    Addressed to Monmouth dated 1 April 1841 red arrival date stamp on front and superb wotton-under-edge on the reverse.

    Fine and one of the finest strikes of this most distinctive Maltese Cross cancellation on a Penny Black.

Posted in Amble on Christmas Eve 1840 to Mrs. Hannah Backhouse Postmistress of Kendal. Blue Ambleside circular date stamp on reverse. William Wordsworth (1770-1850) Poet Laureate (from 1843) was distributor of stamps for the County of Westmorland until 1842. A stunning and unique piece of philatelic history.
