    Paul Fraser Collectibles

South Africa Mafeking 1900 6d on 2d green and carmine, SG8

    £2,750.00

South Africa Cape of Good Hope - Mafeking Siege Stamps, 23 March 1900 to 17 May 1900.

1900 6d on 2d green and carmine, type 1 (seriffed) surcharge "Mafeking 6d Bechuanaland Protectorate Besieged", position 4 of the setting, SG8,

A fine quality example of this stamp of historical significance with large part original gum. This stamp is particularly rare in unused condition, and this one is much above average condition making it an important rarity.

There are many forgeries of the Mafeking overprints, many of which were brought home by soldiers returning from the Boer War.

To provide complete peace of mind in this respect, this stamp is accompanied with an independent certificate of authenticity from the British Philatelic Association (2015).

The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value for this stamp is £3,000.

    Paul fraser collectibles

Tristan Da Cunha 1929 stampless cover to USA (SGC7)

    £6,500.00

Tristan Da Cunha 1929 stampless cover to the USA, carried on board the 'Halesius' which arrived at Tristan Da Cunha on 24 May, with two very fine strikes of the rare type Va cachet in magenta (as type V, but without break in inner ring, and damaged 'T', 'C' and 'N'), 'T' in circle between.

Also a London paquebot transit circular date stamp dated '26 JU 29' at the upper right, and a 'New York Due/ 10 / CENTS' paired circles at lower left. 'JUL 8 1929' receiving H/S on reverse.

Trivial peripheral blemishes mentioned for accuracy, still superb.

Probably the finest of the six covers (and the first to be discovered) recorded by Crabb, which mostly have faint strikes.

Illustrated on p.195 of Crabb's 'The History and Postal History of Tristan da Cunha'.

Ex Jack Cole Collection (Stanley Gibbons Auctions 30/10/98, lot 188). Also an ex Stanley Gibbons stock item.

  • Uganda 1895 (Nov) typewritten 20(c), SG38
    v

    Paul Fraser Collectibles

    Uganda 1895 (Nov) typewritten 20(c), SG38

    £8,250.00

Uganda 1895 (Nov) typewritten 20(c) violet narrow letters, narrow stamp, SG38.

A fine example with strong colour and large part borders except at left, tied by blue crayon cross to neat cover (green envelope) from Rev Martin Hall to Archdeacon Walker at Namirembe. Typical cover folds (almost certainly indicating carriage of mail by cleft stick) but choice quality for 'missionary' cover.

Very rare, being one of only ten covers recorded with the November 1895 issue, from a total population of just 21 'typewritten' covers.

Excellent provence, ex Trapnell, from the Walker family collection which preserved the Archdeacon's papers.
