    Superb unmounted original gum bottom left hand corner marginal 3A, 2B, 1C cylinder block of six imperforate imprimaturs, each stamp with a 'British Postal Museum and Archives' handstamp on reverse. Some light gum disturbance in lower margin from original mounting of the sheet by the Post Office, nevertheless a unique positional piece.

    From the very first approved printed sheet of this classic stamp issue, the equivalent to a "first edition", and with the highest possible provenance originating from the British Postal Museum Archives.

    The Stanley Gibbons catalogue price for a strip of six is £3,500 meaning no premium is attached to the price for the additional rarity factor in being a block of twelve.

    A superb unmounted original gum left hand marginal block of four with black, blue, bistre and reddish brown omitted, offered with normal block for comparison.

    The error results in the loss of value and inscription on all stamps. Also affected are the gull's head, wing detail and water shading; the blue tit's feather detail and branch shading; the robin's wings and legs; and the blackbird's body and legs. The error existed in a cylinder block of eight but was split into two blocks of four in the late 90's.

    A wonderful example of undoubtedly the most spectacular Queen Elizabeth II error.
