GREAT BRITAIN 1913 £1 Yellowish Green "Seahorses", SG403var
A truly exceptional unmounted mint, with full original gum, top corner marginal block of eight, consisting of two complete rows of four.
This rare colour trial was printed by Waterlow on Joynson experimental paper, and each stamp is overprinted "CANCELLED" type 24.
The yellowish green shade is a notable departure from the issued colours and represents a key moment in the development of the Seahorses high values.
This multiple is not only visually stunning but also of considerable philatelic importance, with very few such blocks known in private hands. An ideal centrepiece for an advanced collection of Seahorses or colour trials.
Provenance: National Postal Museum Archives.
Stanley Gibbons catalogue value: £26,000+.
