John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. (1902-1968) was one of the most important American writers of the 20th century. He wrote a total of 27 books, including classics The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men.
He also acted as a war correspondent during both World War II and the Vietnam War shortly before his death. Steinbeck is one of very few writers to receive both the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Pulitzer.
