An exceptionally fine and fresh unmounted mint, with full original gum, top marginal example lettered 'KC'. Insignificant mark in Queen's hair mentioned for accuracy, otherwise a superb example of this scarce stamp. The most distinctive of the great Victorian high values named ""The Long One Pound"", notable for its imposing size and £1 face value. Rarely encountered in this superb unmounted mint condition. SG Catalogue Value: £5,000. The famous “Long One Pound” stamp is widely recognised as the brightest Victorian stamp issue. Although, in typical form, many new budding philatelists of the day were not impressed with this design which didn’t fit properly in their stamp album. It did not survive long and was only in issue a short time.
