The rare Vermilion Maltese Cross cancellation on a fine strip of three 1840 1d intense black, plate 1b QC-QE (QD showing burr rub), SG Specialised catalogue number AS4vh/g.
A very fine quality example with good to very large margins and vivid bright vermilion Maltese Crosses. It has been washed to remove soiling and is in overall outstanding appearance.
The Vermillion Maltese Cross was used in Bristol with the SG specialised catalogue price for a single example on cover listed at a value of £2,250. This exceptionally rare cancellation is a major rarity as a strip of three.
Accompanied with a 2004 certificate of authenticity from the Royal Philatelic Society (RPS).
