Description

  • A hugely desirable 1964 photo with signature to the reverse by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, with superb provenance.

Richards has signed a striking “Love Keith Richard” – the name he used during the 1960s and 1970s – in blue ballpoint pen on the back of a previously unknown 4.8 x 3.5 inch black and white photo.

Keith Richards (1943-) has been a guitarist and driving force for the Stones since their inception. With Mick Jagger, Richards has co-written the bulk of the Stones’ hits, including (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Paint It Black and Jumping Jack Flash.

The 4.8 x 3.5 inch photo was taken backstage at the Brighton Hippodrome on Sunday July 19, 1964 – just seven days after the Stones had their first #1 single with It’s All Over Now.

The Stones were headlining a bill that included Kenny Lynch and Marty Wilde.

The photographer was a teenage journalist for amateur magazine Teen Topics.

Richards signed the photo on the Stones’ next visit to the Brighton Hippodrome, on Sunday October 11, 1964, when the journalist again was permitted access to the band backstage.

Photos of the Stones in their early years are highly sought after, as are signatures. Finding the two together makes this a hugely rare piece.  Good condition.

Comes directly from the amateur Teen Topics journalist, with a detailed letter of authenticity from her.
