Great Britain 1915 10s Deep Blue "Seahorses", SG411.
A very fine, unmounted mint example with full original gum of the rarest deep blue shade, printed by De La Rue. Full perforations and superb centring.
The most iconic stamp design from the reign of King George V. The King George V Seahorses stamps are considered by many collectors to be the finest stamp design ever issued by Great Britain.
They were in circulation longer than any other British high value stamp: 26 years between 1913 and 1939.
The imagery of the stamp made a bold statement to the world. One noble piece of paper that encapsulated the meaning of being “proud to be British”.
It was designed as a small piece of propaganda on the eve of World War I, at a time when Britain ruled the waves and commanded the largest empire in history.
Specialised catalogue number N70(2).
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue price is £5,500.
