Canada 1908 Quebec Tercentenary set of 8 to 20c dull brown, in used blocks of 4, SG188/95.
A visually magnificent and exceptionally scarce complete set of the 1908 Quebec Tercentenary issue, each in a used block of four.
These stamps were issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of Quebec by Samuel de Champlain in 1608, and feature some of the most striking and historic designs in Canadian philately.
There are some slight faults (two 15c with defects, one 20c with corner crease) and mostly with heavyish cancels (10c with barred ovals, 7c, 15c, 20c with 'R' in ovals), but a rare and remarkable assembly.
Highly desirable as multiples, particularly for the higher denominations, which are seldom encountered in block format. Complete used sets in block format are rarely offered on the open market, particularly in such a consistent and cohesive presentation.
The 15c and 20c blocks are especially elusive, and even single examples from this issue are sought-after.
