Exquisite signed portrait photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in original frame
A 1958 signed presentation portrait photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in Buckingham Palace. Philip wears naval uniform, the Queen wears formal attire and a gown.
The picture is signed clearly and boldly on the mount by the royal couple.
It is presented in the original black Morocco leather frame with easel back, measuring 33 x 22.5cm. Please note the frame is unstuck at the base and the easel is detached.
The picture is from a series taken in October 1957 by Lord Snowdon, Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Armstrong-Jones married Princess Margaret, the Queen’s sister, in 1960.
The picture was in the collection of Admiral of the Fleet The Lord Lewin KG, GCB, LVO, DSC (1920-1999). It was given to him by Her Majesty when he was Commander of The Royal Yacht 'Britannia' in 1957-58. Lord Lewin served alongside Prince Philip in World War II, striking up a life-long friendship with him.
This beautifully presented, signed picture is a masterful portrait of a married couple. In 1958, Elizabeth had been on the throne for some six years and had two children, Charles and Anne. The photographer’s close connection to the couple helps to create an intimate, revealing portrait that is a very desirable display piece for Royal collectors.
