Margaret Thatcher, born in Grantham, Lincolnshire as Margaret Roberts in 1923, was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th Century and the first woman Prime Minister of the UK.
She was first elected in 1979, and her administration substantially changed the country, winning two further elections in 1983 and 1987 before she stood down in 1990.
She died in 2013, as Baroness Thatcher.
She is still revered by her admirers, and as recently as 2019 topped a poll as Britain’s greatest post-war leader, beating even Winston Churchill into top spot.
The Downing Street Years was published as a memoir in 1993. It was the basis of a four-part BBC series. Mrs Thatcher wrote it herself, in collaboration with a small group of trusted advisers and researchers. She wrote only two further books.
This handsome signature on a standout work is a fitting tribute to one of the most consequential British political figures of all time.
