Tribute to Honour whisky to see a record $333,000 at Christie's?

An exceptional bottle of Royal Salute Tribute to Honour whisky looks set to top all records at Christie's Fine Wines on November 12-13 in Geneva.

Tribute of Honour whisky
The whisky is made from 'The Angel's Share' - from several different barrels

The Scotch whisky is 45 years old, with less than 15 litres having been hand-bottled into bejewelled flagons of the finest French porcelain. One of only 21 examples ever released, it is expected to sell for $222,000-333,000.

The stunning decanter for the whisky was produced by French porcelain masters Revol, who sourced the finest volcanic clay from New Zealand. With hundreds created, the makers selected just 21 flawless examples for use.

Each of these 21 was then dressed by noted jewellers Garrard, featuring 413 black and white diamonds studded across the stopper, collar and sterling silver plinth. The bottle also features a replica of the Sword of State on its front.

Providing the reserve is met, the decanter will undoubtedly exceed the $94,000 record for a bottle of whisky at auction, which was set by a 55-year-old bottle of Glenfiddich's Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve in March 2012.

At Bonhams on October 13, two bottle of The Master Distillers' Unity, a blend of seven different Kentucky bourbons created in aid of legendary distiller Parker Beam's fight against ALS, sold for $10,115 - more than five times the pre-sale estimate.
