Macallan Lalique 55-year old achieves $42,000 on February 6

A bottle of Macallan Lalique 55-year old headlined a sale of whiskies at Bonhams Hong Kong on February 6, with a final bid of $41,917.

Whiskies from the Scottish distillery are among the most valuable in the world, with one six litre bottle in a specially designed Lalique decanter selling for a record $631,850 at Sotheby's Hong Kong last year.

The present auction included a number of rare Japanese whiskies, including a selection of highly sought after bottles from the Karuizawa distillery that sold for $18,418.

Daniel Lam, of Bonhams Hong Kong's wine & whisky department, commented prior to the sale: "Japanese whisky has now well and truly arrived on the international stage."
