Henri Jayer (1922-2006) was a world renowned wine maker, famous for his transformation of the Cros Parantoux vineyard - a small area adjoining the famous grand cru vineyard Richebourg.
The dozen bottles' value is testament to the quality and rarity of 1990 Cros Parantoux.
Bottles bearing Jayer's name seldom fail to do well at auction, with a 1985 Echezeaux bringing £49,350 ($80,064) at Sotheby's in September 2012 - a 46.5% increase on estimate.
