A huge collection of top end Japanese Karuizawa whisky is selling at Whisky Auctioneer.

Karuizawa closed its operations in 2001

Each of the 299 bottles originates from the country’s fabled Karuizawa distillery, which closed its doors in 2001.

The collection looks set to break £500,000 ($623,305). Even the distillery's cheapest bottles generally sell for in excess of £1,600 ($2,000).

The highlight is an ultra-rare bottle of Karuizawa 1960, one of only 14 in existence. Another achieved $118,000 in 2015.

The sale will run from April 5-17.
