'Blend' of rare Macallans and Bowmores lead Edinburgh whisky auction

For whisky fans and collectors, there can be little more exciting news than that Bonhams is holding another of its sales of fine whisky. Having previously sold more Scotch single malts than almost any other auctioneer, the company really made its mark some many months back with the three-part sale of the wonderful Willard S Folsom collection.

Two of the highlights in their upcoming whisky sale are as follows:

A bottle of The Macallan Select Reserve-52 year old-1946, distilled and bottled by The Macallan Distillers Ltd. Bottle number 1892, it remains in its wooden presentation case with good labelling and the level into the neck. It is expected to bring £1,800-2,000 and should make an excellent investment.

The overall highlight of the sale, however is likely to be a bottle of Bowmore 40 year old-Vintage 1955.

Distilled and bottled by Morrison's Bowmore Distillery Limited marked Caithness Glass decanter number 73 of 306, it is accompanied by a stopper in a fitted wooden cabinet within the original packaging.

The decanter is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity which invites the buyer of this lot to visit the distillery to sample this unique whisky. Accommodation is also provided in the distillery cottage in addition to a personal tour.

The level of the whisky is high shoulder, and it is expected to sell for £3,500 - 4,000 ($6,500). The sale takes place on March 9th in Edinburgh.
