Blade and Bow bourbon raises $78,000 for charity

A single lot of 34 bottles of 24-year-old Blade and Bow Kentucky bourbon realised $78,000 in a charity auction held at Christie's earlier in the month.

Blade and Bow was among the last barrels produced at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery

The spirit was bottled at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Kentucky, which was formerly owned by master brewer Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle.

This was the last barrel produced at the distillery before it closed in 1992.

Bottles of Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve (the distillery's most famous product) are released in small batches each year and regularly sell for thousands of dollars apiece.
