1999 DRC La Tache makes $47,500 in Hart Davis Hart sale

Hart Davis Hart's latest sale in Chicago on September 19-20 has realised $6.6m, with a bottle of 1999 DRC La Tache providing the highlight at $47,600.

In total, 86 bottles of DRC sold for a combined $850,943.

Wine continues to be a truly international market, with this latest sale attracting a record number of bidders from across five continents.

The house commented: "Burgundy results continue to be robust—particularly for the wines from the region's biggest names."

This was demonstrated in strong sales for Rousseau, Leflaive and Leroy.

Intriguingly, a bottle of 1994 Henri Jayer Bourgogne Rose exceeded its estimate of $180 by 1,222% to take $2,380, which quite possibly stands as a new world record for rose.

Additionally, 180 bottles of first growth Bordeaux sold for a combined total of $705,884.

HDH went on: "Supporting recent trends, Bordeaux sale prices are on the rise.

"Particularly strong results were seen with Bordeaux from 1989, 1995, 1996 and 2005, and with wines from Ausone, Lynch-Bages, Margaux, Montrose, Pavie, Palmer, Pichon Baron and Pichon Lalande (among many others) all hammering significantly above their midpoint estimates.

"The HDH Bordeaux index rose 3.63% as of the sale."
