Romanée-Conti is all the rage at the moment among Asian buyers and Sotheby's The Ultimate Cellar auction in Hong Kong over the weekend proved the point.
12 bottles of 1990 Grand Cru sold for $233,390, just below the high end estimate of $240,000.
The consecutively numbered bottles were banded prior to inspection and had retained an excellent appearance, with the exception of one stained neck label.
Sotheby's called the vintage "a very great wine" and "the epitome of that Romanée-Conti silkiness".
11 bottles from the 1985 vintage achieved $186,712 at the same sale, slightly above the high end estimate.
