1982 Chateau Petrus will lead Warren Stephens auction at $30,000

Sotheby's has announced that, on September 20 in New York, it will auction the magnificent Warren A Stephens Collection Part II, featuring 1982 Chateau Petrus among some of the world's finest wines.

Warren Stephens Wine Auction
Stephens' favourite wine is said to be the 1959 Chateau Latour, a sought after vintage

The 1982 Chateau Petrus, a highly respected vintage from the illustrious Pomerol appellation, is valued at $20,000-30,000.

The auction joins two other single-owner wine sales from Sotheby's this autumn - Only DRC, a Private Cellar of Domaine de la Romanee Conti on September 7, and Domaine Clarence Dillon: Wines Direct from the Cellar of Chateau Haut Brion on October 4.

Warren A Stephens is a renowned Arkasas businessman. He is chairman, president and CEO of Stephens Inc, a privately owned investment bank. A respected wine aficionado, his favourite is said to be the 1959 Chateau Latour.

The first part of his collection was sold through Sotheby's in 2007. This latest instalment has a particular focus on large formats, with 476 litre bottles offered, as well as a wide selection of magnums, double-magnums and jeroboams.

The sale features a comprehensive selection of Bordeaux, with 1989 Chateau Lafleur - another wine from the Pomerol appellation - expected to see between $6,000 and $9,000.

Wines from the Pomerol appellation are unclassified, but are nonetheless regarded as some of the finest and rarest in the world.

Starring among the Burgundy wines on offer will be a full case of 1999 DRC Romanee-Conti, which is expected to see $125,000-175,000, while four vintages of La Tache, including a case of the 1996 is valued at $20,000-27,500.
