1914 bottle of Bollinger champagne sells for $12,000

A 1914 bottle of Bollinger achieved $12,250 in a sale of rare bottles from the champagne producer hosted by Sotheby's New York.

Bollinger is one of the world's leading champagnes

The lot has a fascinating history.

It was one of around 600 bottles discovered in a hidden room in Bollinger's cellar in Ay in 2010. They were stashed there in the 1940s, when the Nazis rolled through, and were forgotten.

The winning bidder will also get a tour of the estate and a stay at a five star hotel in nearby Reims.
