$15k Macallan 55 year-old to star at Christie's

As we previously reported, the sale of the rare and renowned 1964 Bowmore whisky trilogy will be the main highlight at the Christie's November 14 auction of fine wines and spirits in New York.

But the trilogy will be in fine company, selling alongside a number of lots from the world-famous Park Avenue Liquor shop, sourced from its cellar bursting with the very best offerings from spirits producers across the globe/

The Park Avenue Liquor Shop is known for its exceptional selection of single malt scotches, including Ardbeg, Glenfarclas, Macallan, and Bowmore, among others.

A number of choice lots from the shop's cellars will appear at the sale, including the 55-year-old Macallan in a specially-designed Lalique crystal decanter (estimated at $11,000-15,000), and a rare Glenfarclas 50-year-old, bottled from a 1955 distilled single cask (estimated at $4,800-6,000).

An Ardbeg Double Barrel two-bottle lot sourced from two 1974 barrels, comes ready-made as a gift in a leather presentation guncase with eight solid silver cups, a title plate, two books, a pen and cleaning kits (estimated at $15,000-20,000).

Among other highlights from Park Avenue Liquor Shop is a limited-edition Hardy Perfection Cognac in an engraved Daum crystal decanter ($5,500-7,000), and a millennium bottling of Armagnac from leading producer Baron de Sigognac that was allowed to mature for nearly a century ($2,000-3,000).

Also for sale will be three lots of Distiller's Masterpiece 18 year-old Kentucky Bourbon, a collaboration between Jim Beam's grandson, master distiller Booker Noe and master Cognac blender Alain Royer (estimate at $500-800 per bottle).

For collectors who appreciate a bit of naval history with their spirits, the rum section of the sale includes a remarkable find: a ceramic demijohn (one imperial gallon) of British Imperial Rum, pot-distilled in Jamaica and sourced from the final stores of the Royal Navy ($4,500-6,000).

The Spirits auction will be held at Christie's New York on November 14, 2009, and the Fine and Rare Wines sale on December 9, 2009.
