In their autumn sale of Fine Wines Christie's will present a great selection of 774 lots, promising not only old and rare collections of impeccable provenance, but also excellent wines from the best recent vintages including the very sought-after 2005.
Highlighting the sale is an extraordinary Lafite-Rothschild collection, which has been kept in perfect condition in a cellar in the mountains, which comprises bottles and magnums of a wide range of vintages up to 1962, with a number of rarities from older vintages dating back to 1858 (estimated at SFr.8,000-12,000 - over $11,000 - for one bottle).
Among the group of "classics" are some of the best vintages from 1865, 1871, 1900, 1911, 1929, 1945, 1959, 1961, 1962, including one bottle of 1865 (SFr.6,500-8,500 for on bottle), one magnum of 1926 (SFr.2,400-2,800 for one magnum), six bottles of 1959 (Estimate: SFr.6,000-12,000 for six bottles) and six magnums of 1962 (SFr.4,200-5,000 for six magnums).
Also going under the hammer is an important selection of Burgundy, including a group of exceptional Domaine de la Romanée-Conti with six bottles of Romanée-Conti 1999 (SFr.40,000-50,000 for six bottles), a rare Jeroboam of Romanée Conti 1999 (SFr.28,000-38,000 for one Jeroboam) and a Jeroboam of La Tâche 1999 (SFr.10,000-15,000 for one Jeroboam).
Among the finest wines also sourced from impeccable Swiss cellars, is a collection of 3,000 bottles, which includes cases of the first growths from the 1982 vintage with Lafite- Rothschild (SFr.16,000-22,000 for 12 bottles), Margaux (SFr.7,000-9,000 for 12 bottles), Haut Brion (SFr.6,000-8,000 for 12 bottles) and Cheval Blanc (SFr.8,000-10,000 for 12 bottles)
Twelve bottles of Sassicaia 1997 (SFr.2,600-3,000) and 12 bottles of Barbaresco Asili Riserva 1996, Bruno Giacosa (SFr.2,400-2,800) come from the same collection as well.
The sale also boasts cases (of 12 bottles) of the superb Trotanoy 1975 (SFr.4,000-5,000 for 12 bottles), a rare Imperial of Haut Brion 1989 (SFr.7,000-9,000 for one Imperial), Ausone 2000 (SFr.7,500-8,500 for six bottles), and three double magnums of Lafite-Rothschild 2005 (SFr.7,500-9,500 for three Double-magnums).
