Over the next several days, Bonhams will be offering a broad selection of jewellery in a series of auctions in the UK which might interest collectors.
However, only a minority are investment-grade pieces which are likely to retain or improve their value in the coming years. We've picked out a few of our favourites from their London auction next week:
An attractive ruby and diamond cluster ring comprises an oval mixed-cut ruby, within a tapered baguette and brilliant-cut diamond surround, attached to a reeded hoop. The diamonds weigh roughly 1.9ct in total in the ring, which is size O and listed at £4,000-6,000.
Secondly, there is a diamond line bracelet. Composed of a continuous row of brilliant-cut diamonds, which are mounted in 18kt white gold, weighing approximately 8.90ct in total, the piece also bears the maker's mark and London hallmark. It is valued at £6,500-7,000.
Thirdly, there is a pair of enamel and diamond brooches. Designed as a stylised flower, the inside petals are highlighted with burgundy enamel and the outer petals set with brilliant-cut diamonds.
The 'head' of the flower is set within a baguette-cut diamond collar, topping a similarly-set stem, with the diamonds weighing approximately 7.80ct in total. These are listed at £6,000-8,000.
Finally, there is a diamond-set wristwatch. The circular dial displays Arabic and baton numerals within a brilliant-cut diamond bezel. This is attached to a similarly-set bracelet strap, with the diamonds weighing approximately 24.3ct in total.
The piece was cased by Kutchinsky's of London, and is expected to sell for £8,000-12,000 in Bonhams' sale which takes place on January 12, 2011.
