Rare 'Golden Era' Rolex watches auction in the UK

In just over a fortnight, Birmingham will play host to the Wrist & Pocket Watch auction at Fellows & Sons.

The event opens on Monday July 5, and is set to feature some of the most rare and collectable names in the world of vintage watches - in particular the world famous Rolex brand.

The auction is a must for collectors and watch enthusiasts alike, with particular attention to the golden period of Rolex production between the 1940s and 1970s.

The era saw the introduction and development of day and date dials, waterproofing and multiple time zone features, alongside complex mechanics and unique aesthetic design.

Rolex also made history as the first wristwatch makers to earn chronometer certification for the precision of their Men's watches.

This certification established their position as high-end market leaders, and ensured these rare vintage watches have a unique place in history.

The auction will be offering collectors and investors the chance to buy into this era with the sales of a rare Comex diver's watch and the famous Oyster Milgauss, which are both set to dominate sales at the event.

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss was first introduced in 1954. The Milgauss was designed specifically for those who worked in power plants, medical facilities and research where electromagnetic fields can cause havoc with the timing of a watch.

This antimagnetic special edition of The Milgauss contains a green sapphire crystal making it a highly sought after item for any collector.

The equally rare Rolex Comex (Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise) Diver Superlative Chronometer also goes up for auction at the event.

This special edition of the 1665 Rolex Sea-Dweller Men's watch was designed for a depth rating of 2000 feet and is all the more unique for its Triplock crown which protects the movement. Current estimates put the valuation of this watch at £20,000 - £30,000.

These legendary watches along with hundreds of other rare collectables will feature in the Wrist & Pocket Watch auction, beginning in Birmingham, UK, on Monday.
