On Tuesday 15 November a Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond fetched a record breaking 11.28m Swiss francs ($12,827,300) under the hammer at Sotheby's auctioneers in Geneva.
Discovered in South Africa last year, the impressive stone has been named the "Sun-Drop Diamond" due to its distinctive colour and shape.

Some degree of yellow tint is fairly familiar in so called 'colourless' diamonds however it is rare to find a diamond where the intensity of colour is so clear that it is described as Fancy Yellow.
Set with a triangular shape diamond, weighing almost a carat, the pendant is balanced perfectly creating a stylish and timeless piece that can be worn for a lifetime.

November's auction will offer an abundance of other beautiful gems with another stunning diamond taking centre stage.
Lot 297, an early 20th century platinum diamond ring weighing 7.97 carats, is billed as "the epitome of sophistication" and has an estimate of £80,000 - £120,000.
