Rare $40,000 Faberge clock set to light up Artcurial's Paris auction block

Artcurial's upcoming sale of jewellery and watches will give collectors a chance to own a number of superb pieces.

The sale in Paris on December 8 will feature 283 lots including fine wristwatches, rings, brooches and cufflinks, but one item stands out in particular ahead of the rest and it's easy to see why.

The highest-valued lot of the sale is a rare Faberge silver and enamel desktop clock dating from 1905. It features a circular white porcelain enamel dial surrounded by silver and natural pearls, set within a square shaped violet and yellow guilloche enamel frame.

It also features a mechanical double-barrel 8-day movement created by Heinrich Moser, who specialized in the production of watches and clocks for the Russian court.

is valued at $39,983

Nearly all of Faberge's desk clocks were circular in design, so this clock set in a square case is a real rarity. This combined with its quality and the movement by Moser should mean the clock is highly sought-after by collectors and could prove to be a bargain at $39,983.

Other notable items in the sale include a 5.15ct diamond ring with white gold setting, rated VVS1, with an estimated value of $37,317 and a 17.62ct sapphire and diamond ring with a white gold setting estimated at $33,319.

The sale will attract both collectors and investors eager to cash in on the increasingly strong jewellery market, which has already seen several World Record prices broken this year. And with the market set to grown even stronger in 2011, this could be the perfect time to pick up a clock that gives you perfect time...
