The Patek Philippe Ref 5073 will appear at auction for the first time when an example crosses the block at Sotheby's Hong Kong Important Watches Autumn Sale 2013.
The 2013-made timepiece has an $840,000 high valuation ahead of the October 8 auction, an indication of its rarity and importance.
The platinum watch has the same complications as the much-coveted Ref 5074P - including automatic minute repeating calendar, cathedral gongs, leap year indicators and Moon phases - yet has the additional advantage of baguette diamonds.
"Like the Ref. 5074, revered for the sublime tones of its repeater, the Ref 5073 with its 'Cathedral gongs' faithfully chimes the hours, quarters and minutes with perfect clarity," says Sotheby's.
Also starring will be a specially commissioned 2013 Patek Philippe Ref 5101P. The only example of this reference with a black dial, it has a $410,000 high estimate.
A 2011 Patek Philippe Ref 6104G white gold and diamond-set automatic astronomical calendar wristwatch, featuring a sky chart, will also appear. It has a $350,000 valuation.
Away from the Patek Philippes, a circa 2010 Vacheron Constantin Chime Sublime will also feature prominently. It has a $620,000 valuation.
Charles Tearle, head of watches at Sotheby's Asia, comments: "Following the overwhelming success in April 2013, Sotheby's Watches department continues to see growth within Asia as is evident in the upcoming October auction offering approximately 500 watches and clocks.
"We believe this diverse array of fresh and important timepieces will offer an excellent buying opportunity for collectors worldwide."
