The Burmese "pigeon blood" red stone made $30.3m in Sotheby's Magnificent and Noble Jewels auction in Geneva on May 11.
It weighs in at 25.5 carats, making it one of the largest in the world.
The previous record for a ruby was $14.1m, set for the Verdura Jubilee at Sotheby's this past April.
The Lesedi la Rona diamond is expected to become the most valuable ever sold when it crosses the block at Sotheby's on June 29.
