Iowa auction set to prove there's no better time to buy an antique watch or clock

Marshall town, Iowa, is bracing itself for another impressive sale of pocket watches and antique clocks. It's all part of Thomas Harris Auction's October 1st sale which is set to bring 300 fascinating pieces to collectors both in attendance and bidding online.

With the majority of pieces having had a target price of £200 - 500 set there were a select few extra special pieces that could prove to dominate the results from tomorrows sale.

One such lot was a Swiss Ladies silver pocket watch.

Featuring movement marked with a Swiss cross, this piece included blue feathered enamel dials along with black numbers of white enamel rounds all of which is highlighted in silver.

The case also comes in engraved and chased designs of flowers and scrolls. This fine timepiece carries a pre auction estimate of $500 - 2,000.

Similarly impressive, is a Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantle Clock.

 



 With 8 day time, an hourly gong and a half hour bell strike, this clock comes in a case which had 3 columns on each side and a tan marbleized finished.

Measuring 13" x 18 1/4" and in full working order, this antique piece carries a pre-auction estimate of $800 - 1,200 but could prove popular amongst collectors.

For those keen on investing in a classic pocket watch, the sale also boasts a Waltham Vanguard 23J 16S Pocket watch.

Featuring a wind indicator and 5 adjusted positions, the watch is presented in a yellow hinged 20 year crescent case. In almost perfect condition this piece is set to sell for $1,200 - 2,000.

Yet perhaps the star piece of the sale is the extra special 60 hour Bunn Special Pocket watch.

Featuring six positions in a roller barrel, this rare timepiece is presented in a yellow screw on Illinois Bunn Special model case and is sure to prove popular with collectors and local history enthusiasts alike.

 Made by Keystone using 14 karat gold and including a double sunk Montgomery dial.

This collectible piece carries a target price of $1,500 - 3,000.

But as ever, this could prove only the starting point once collectors and investors find out about this lot. The sale kicks off bright and early at 8am pacific time tomorrow.

Which means, wherever you are in the world, you may wish to set a reminder, otherwise you may just miss out on an investment bargain.
