An upcoming New York auction will feature a truly exceptional collection of rare Patek Philippe watches.
The sale of 'Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces' will be previewed in cities around the world including Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Shanghai before heading to New York, where it will take place on April 25.
Recent sales in Hong Kong have seen Patek Philippe watches smash their estimates and achieve top results - and the world's foremost collectors are eagerly awaiting the New York sale.
Headlining the sale will be a 1992 Patek Philippe Ref. 3974 platinum wristwatch, valued at $600,000 - $800,000. This stunning timepiece is minute repeating and self-winding with a perpetual calendar and moon phases.
It bears the hallmark of the celebrated case maker Jean-Pierre Hagmann, and is sold alongside a Patek Philippe mahogany fitted box and a Certificate of Origin.
Other superb examples will include an 18K yellow gold Ref. 5013 wristwatch with retrograde perpetual calendar and moon phases valued at $300,000 - $400,000, a Ref. 2438 18K yellow gold wristwatch circa 1958 valued at $200,000 - $300,000, and a Ref. 5050 18K white gold wristwatch valued at $80,000 - $120,000.
The end of 2011 saw the sale of several important Patek Philippe watches help Sotheby's to their highest ever total for watches and clocks in New York.
For collectors and investors with an eye on the vintage watch market, it will come as no surprise if the forthcoming sale achieves similarly impressive results.
