A necklace by Swiss designer De Grisogono featuring a 163 carat diamond (the biggest ever auctioned) has sold for $33.7m at Christie’s.
It led the Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva yesterday.
De Grisogono created this necklace in 2016
The result is a new record for a D colour diamond (a designation that means the stone is entirely colourless).
The rock was found in Angola's Lulo mine in 2016.
The necklace itself is adorned with smaller diamonds and emeralds and was painstakingly constructed over 1,700 hours.
The sale also featured the Grand Mazarin diamond, one of France’s crown jewels, which realised $14.5m.
