Glassware collectors will already be looking forward to James D Julia's fine Lamp & Glass Auction in December, featuring theprivate collection of Dorothy Lee Jones, Jones Museum of Glass & Ceramics in Sebago, Maine, which we reported on earlier this month.
The Tiffany glass section was headed by a dogwood table lamp in colours of mottled white, yellow and green and a dragonfly lamp with its rippled glass in ethereal deep green and blue with green jewels.
Best of all is a peony table lamp with the flowers showing striated reds, mauves and pinks with touches of blue and purple in the petals on one side, whilst having large white, pink and purple peonies in full bloom on the other side.
However, the auctioneer has announced that it is adding a lamp to the sale which promises to leave the others in the shade.
This is a 22" Rose Bouquet leaded glass lamp on a bronze base from the studio of Joseph Porcelli.
Described simply and clearly by James D Julia as "Absolutely…The Nicest Contemporary Lamp We've Ever Offered", the lamp is an all-over design made up of dozens of roses in all stages of bloom and rendered in a variety of red, pink, magenta and orange glass.
It is the third lamp from the Porcelli Studio to be offered by Julia's: One was offered during their Summer 2009 auction and another during their Summer 2010 auction with both achieving well-over their pre-auction estimates.
Recently, another Porcelli lamp bested its estimate during Michaan's Auction of Oakland, California's Decorative Arts Sale of November 2010, hosted in association with well known antiques personality Reyne Haines of the Reyne Gallery of Houston, Texas, and Paul Fraser Collectibles' Expert Panel.
James D Julia's auction takes place on December 1 and 2 2010 in Maine, USA and online.
