Mecum Auction, the famed seller of high-performance collector cars and automobilia for over 20 years, is to present one of the largest and rarest sign collections ever assembled.
The McDorman Sign Auction will take place Sept. 11-12, 2009, at Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, Ohio, US.
The no reserve auction will feature more than 1,000 vintage signs, parts and automotive collectibles.
"Bob McDorman's sign collection contains some of the largest and most significant pieces in the automotive memorabilia world," President Dana Mecum told Vette, the specialist Corvette magazine.
"Avid collectors searching for from-the-factory pieces will find a wealth of items to choose from, such as a working 10-foot-by-27-foot Chevrolet Bowtie sign that stood over the St. Louis Corvette assembly plant.
"With such amazing history, a McDorman sign would be a great addition to any collection," he said.
Among the sales is a colourful Chevrolet clock sign - one of the hardest pieces to find - measuring eight foot by six foot and is in excellent condition.
A 10-foot tall vintage Chevrolet Starburst sign is fully operational and one of the most colourful produced by the automaker.
The collection also contains a five-foot Buick logo sign. With few examples available today, this fully operational GM vintage sign would be a unique addition to any sign or Buick collection.
Online bidding will be available for interested buyers who are unable to attend.
