Two beds that were once housed in Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford's Beverly Hills estate have been consigned to the latest sale at PFC Auctions, which closes on September 27.

Countless members of the Hollywood elite have rested in these beds

Fairbanks was known as the King of Hollywood, a title bestowed upon him for his swashbuckling antics in early silent films such as Robin Hood, The Mark of Zorro and The Thief of Bagdad. The actor's legacy lives on today through the United Artists film studio, which he founded together with his wife Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin.

The celebrity couple's "Pickfair" estate is one of the most celebrated homes in the world; Life Magazine once described it as a "gathering place only slightly less important than the White House, and much more fun". Among its most notable guests were Albert Einstein, HG Wells, President Roosevelt and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, to name but a few.

The lavish mahogany guest beds were undoubtedly slept on by several of these famous names and come to auction with impeccable provenance.

Passed down through the Fairbanks family, they were also the property of actor and decorated naval officer Douglas Fairbanks Jr, who was equally as sociable as his father and housed many famous and royal guests at Westridge, Los Angeles - now the home of director Steven Spielberg.

These extraordinary pieces of Hollywood heritage have been consigned by the daughter of Fairbanks Jr, Daphne Fairbanks, and are accompanied by her letter of provenance, which reveals further information about their fascinating past. They will sell with a minimum bid of £8,000 (approx. $12,730).
