The photograph was taken at the University of Birmingham in 1976

Photographer Martin Elliot snapped the image on the tennis courts at the University of Birmingham, where he was studying at the time. The woman is his then-girlfriend Fiona Walker.

Carol Knotts, who lent the dress and racket to Walker and consigned them in Saturday's sale, told the Birmingham Mail prior to the auction: "Fiona was a friend and one day asked if she could borrow my dress and racquet.

"I've had the dress tucked away in a cupboard all these years. It's a little piece of tennis history and I hope someone might find it an interesting novelty item to buy."
