Fleming Penicillin Bonhams

Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin by accident

The lot will feature photographs, letters and a sample of penicillin mould bearing Fleming's signature on the reverse. It’s offered as part of the March 1 Fine Books and Manuscripts sale in London.

Fleming made an extraordinary contribution to medicine and his memorabilia is growing increasingly valuable.

This lot is valued at £6,000-8,000 ($7,490-9,987).

A piece of the original penicillin mould culture sold for double its estimate last year, achieving $40,000 against a valuation of $20,000.
