On this day in 1958, eight of the Busby Babes were killed in the Munich air disaster, a tragic event that would take a total of 23 lives.

Manchester United's most promising players were returning from a European Cup match in Belgrade, but their aircraft had stopped in Munich in order to refuel.

On its third attempt at taking off, the plane ploughed through a fence at the end of the runway before hitting a nearby house.

PFC Auctions is helping to ensure the players' legacy lives on by offering a Busby Babes signed autograph book, which is currently open for bids.
