Thistle Golf Club memorabilia will auction on July 15

A collection of Thistle Golf Club memorabilia is valued at £30,000-50,000 ($46,833-78,055) ahead of a sale at Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh on July 15.

The club was established at the Leith Links in 1815 but disbanded around the turn of the century.

The lot includes an 1822 silver prize medal awarded to George Logan Esq, along with an original scorecard.

A rare copy of James Cundell's Rules of the Thistle Golf Club; with some Historical Notices Relative to the Progress of the Game of Golf in Scotland (1824) is also featured.

Cundell was also a member of the Thistle Club and in addition to codifying the rules of the sport, his book offers a fascinating insight into its development.

A rare 1897 Willie Dunn Stars & Stripes ball is valued at £30,000 ($46,833).

The auction house describes the lot as "one of only twelve reported to have been made.

"One currently resides in the USGA collection, the rest split between just two private collections. This is a rare chance to own one of the world's most collectible golf balls."

Another specimen sold for $28,600 in 1996.

We have Frank Sinatra's personal golf bag for sale.
