A pair of boots designed for footballer Steven Gerrard's last game for Liverpool are to auction to benefit the Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.
The lot is one of 17 pairs made and the only pair ever to have been offered for sale.
Steven Gerrard captained Liverpool for 12 years |
The interior is inscribed with the message: "You leave a legend, you'll return a hero. The city of Liverpool is always with you. You'll never walk alone."
While Gerrard didn't wear this pair in his last game, he did wear an identical pair.
Bidding stands at £5,000 ($7,535).
Gerrard made his debut for Liverpool in 1998 and quickly gained a reputation as a phenomenal midfielder. He was made captain in 2003, a position he held for 12 years until leaving for the LA Galaxy earlier this year.
Rob Arnold, a spokesman for the Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire branch of the British Red Cross, comments: "Steven Gerrard epitomises the spirit of Liverpool.
"A local boy who has never lost touch with his roots, is passionate about the City and its people and recognises that Liverpool is a City that cares.
"This is the Liverpool that came together to organise the fantastic With Love from Liverpool concert in just a few days and a City that has given its support and welcome to refugees and asylum seekers for many years."
