Pele signed Panini album offered at Catawiki

A complete Panini Mexico 70 album signed by Brazilian football legend Pele is selling at online auction site Catawiki.

Bidding already stands at £3,331 ($3,761) ahead of the March 26 close date.

Pele Mexico 70

The Mexico 70 album was Panini's first edition for the FIFA World Cup

In fact, Pele has actually signed the book twice – once on the cover and again on his own entry in the Brazilian team section.

This was Panini’s first FIFA World Cup sticker album.

All 271 cards (before the now ubiquitous stickers, you had to glue each player into place) are included - making this an irresistible piece for serious collectors.

Pele memorabilia has been difficult to get hold of in the past.

However, at Julien’s last year he auctioned off his personal collection; consisting of medals, uniforms and other pieces of memorabilia from his extraordinary career.

Some strong results were achieved, including £160,000 ($290,000) for his 1958 World Cup Winner's medal.

This Panini album is valued at £5,000 ($6,194) but already looks set to outstrip that figure.

Auctioneer Wouter Waajers comments: “The combination of the rarity of the Mexico 70 album, the beautiful condition of the album and the two original Pele signatures make this a unique and extremely valuable item, which will, without a doubt, only increase in value over time...”
