Boxer Jem Carney's silver belt makes $12,000 at Fellows

A silver belt won by boxer Jem Carney in 1887 achieved £7,000 ($11,791) at Fellows in Birmingham, UK on July 31.

Briton Carney won the prize after beating Irish-American rival Jack McAuliffe in a gruelling 74 round bout in the US. This was common practice, with one famous contest in 1883 lasting over three hours.
