Augusta National entrance sign auctions for $25,000

A vintage entrance sign to the Augusta National Golf Club has auctioned for $25,063.

Its connection with arguably golf's most famous tournament, the Masters, ensured a strong price at the Green Jacket Auctions sale on April 10.

Has the new owner got themselves a nice investment?

Yet Ryan Carey, co-founder of the auction house, believes its new owner has got themselves a bargain.

"The high bidder did well by purchasing the sign at that price," he told Golf Digest. "The next time it changes hands, if ever, it will certainly command a premium."

It is the highest price paid for a golf sign.

Retrieved from the garbage by a local resident in the 1960s, it is the first sign from the famous club ever sold at auction.

Elsewhere in the sale, an Augusta National member's green jacket sold for $14,000, while a 1997 Masters-used pin flag autographed by the tournament's winner, Tiger Woods, achieved $4,000.
