The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is attempting to raise $500,000 through Kickstarter to preserve Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 spacesuit.
The suit is presently housed in a climate-controlled facility away from public view. It requires extensive restoration and a highly specialised display case.

It's intended to return to the Museum by the 50th anniversary of the first Lunar landing in 2019.
The museum explains: "The suit is a part of our cultural heritage, and safeguarding it recognizes its importance in telling the story of a remarkable accomplishment.
"And because it is the real thing, seeing the suit provides a tangible way of touching history."
