Artcurial readies its Paris aeronautics auction for take-off

The Mirage III is a supersonic jet designed in France and some other countries in the late 1950s by Dassault Aviation. It was used successfully by a number of countries as a fighter jet, and is still in the frontline of some air forces today.

The first major production model of the Mirage series, the Mirage IIIC, first flew in October 1960. To commemorate the plane's first flight Artcurial is holding an auction based on the last 200 years of mankind's campaigns to conquer the skies around the time of its fiftieth anniversary.

Everything from balloons to supersonic jets will be a welcome topic: dashboard instruments, manuscripts, books and comic strips to posters, watches, toys, models and aeronautical memorabilia.

It's an event unmissable for any aviation collector. The deadline for consignments is September 10, and a week after it will be possible to examine the lots privately by appointment. The public auction will take place in Paris on October 29.

For those that just can't wait that long there are some high quality pieces of memorabilia linked to pioneers of the air Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart available for sale right now.
