Millbury postmaster provisional stamp to auction for $50,000 in Canada

An 1846 Millbury postmaster provisional stamp will feature at auction in Ontario, Canada tomorrow (March 21) with a pre-sale estimate of $50,000.

The Millbury, which is seldom offered at auction and is one of the most sought-after provisionals, is sure to attract attention from collectors who will be delighted by this rare opportunity to get their hands on the stamp.

The example, which is accompanied by a 1985 Philatelic Foundation Certificate, is a fine used copy with light red circular cancel. A light crease and some thin spots are not expected to affect the $50,000 estimate.

Other notable lots include a scarce 90¢ Perry which is expected to bring $5,000, and a rare top margin mint block of the 2¢ Black Jack which carries a pre-sale estimate of $4,000. The auction will feature over 7,300 lots, with a large selection of worldwide singles, sets, varieties, errors and cancels.
