A rare complete proof set of US 1902-1903 Panama-Pacific issue stamps will star at Robert A Siegel.
The lot consists of 14 values from 1c to $5.
It’s expected to make around $35,000 on October 24.
The proof set is one of a possible two in private hands
In all 413 designs were created for the issue before the present set was chosen.
The auction house comments: “The Shreves catalog of the first Brody collection in 2002 stated that only this complete set of 1902 Issue Panama-Pacific proofs exists in private hands.
“However, we believe there is at least one additional complete set in private hands. A master set of all 413 proofs resides in the Smithsonian collection.”
This set last sold for $28,750 at Heritage Auctions in 2006.
