Beer stamps Siegel

The US issued alcohol revenue stamps between 1933 and 1951

The top lot looks set to be a 1951 black on bright blue stamp for “25 barrels of fermented malt liquor”.

Revenue stamps were a straightforward way for the government to collect tax. This example was part of a set that was issued in 1933, after the repeal of prohibition, and discontinued in 1951.

Only two of these final year issues have survived. It’s expected to make around $27,500.
