30c 1869 pictorial invert achieves $52,000 at Robert Siegel

A 30c stamp led the sale of three 1869 pictorial inverts from the collection of Dr Irvin Heimberger at Robert A Siegel Auction Galleries in New York on October 10.

in sound condition

The stamp achieved a sale price of $52,500 and featured ultramarine and carmine colouring with a neat strike of a "circle of Vs" cancel.

The stamp is one of only three examples known to be in sound condition, with only light corner creasing. 

A 24c green and violet invert with a blue 6 bar cancel and only small corner crease achieved $26,000.

A 15c in brown and blue with a small star fancy cancel made $10,500.

An unused 15c invert, the finest of three recorded examples ,achieved $800,000 at Siegel's auction of the Beverly Hills Collection of United States Inverts, which was held on October 9.
